Ingredients:


2 lb flour
8 oz butter or margarine
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp sugar
3 cups seltzer
3-4 bread slices (or pita bread)
4 tomatoes for serving


Directions:


Mix all ingredients except the butter to achieve a smooth dough
Make 8 balls about the size of an apple
Lay them on a floured surface, cover and let rest for an hour
Divide the butter to 8 portions
Roll each dough ball to a thin layer and spread the butter over evenly
Grab one end of the layer and start rolling to a cylinder
Store in refrigerator for an hour
Cover the bottom of a pot with the bread slices
Lay the cylinders on top of the bread and cover
Bake in oven over 275F for 10-12 hours (overnight)
Grate tomatoes and serve.

Jachnun is eaten with the grated tomato on top
